On the 2nd, Jeollanam-do announced that the "7th Handon-in Hanmaeum Competition," a venue for harmony and communication among Korean pork farmers, was held at the Muan Sky Wedding Convention, pledging to advance as a core industry in the agricultural and food sector by strengthening competitiveness through the spread of clean livestock farms.
The event was hosted by the Jeonnam Provincial Council of the Korea Pork Producers Association (President Oh Jaegon) and proceeded with the presentation of the Governor's Commendation and appreciation plaques to contributors to Handong industry development, the reading of a resolution by young pork producers in Jeonnam, and a social contribution sharing event.
At the awards ceremony, three individuals, including Park Taeo, head of the Shinan County branch of the Korea Pork Producers Association, received the Jeonnam Governor's Commendation for their contributions to the development of the Jeonnam pork industry.
During the social contribution sharing event, pork worth 40 million won was donated to Jeonnam Province to support the health of neighbors in need.
Governor Kim Young-rok said in his congratulatory speech, "The production value of Korean pork reached 9.6 trillion won last year, ranking first in agricultural and forestry production value for two consecutive years," adding, "To enhance the competitiveness of Jeonnam's pork industry, we will expand the designation of clean livestock farms, support a 1% interest rate on feed purchase funds, supply heat stress relief agents to prepare for heat waves, and work to reduce odors and support manure treatment facilities to solve odor and manure problems at pig farms."
Oh Jaegon, president of the Jeonnam Provincial Council of the Korea Pork Producers Association, pledged through the resolution, "While making every effort to block foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever, we will reduce pig farm odors by cultivating clean livestock farms and make the pork industry a core industry leading the 21st-century agricultural and food sector together with the residents."
Pork is the most popular meat among Koreans. Of the annual per capita meat consumption of 60.6 kg in Korea, pork accounts for 30.1 kg, nearly half, which is more than a 50% increase compared to ten years ago.
