Daughter-in-law: "I felt hurt by 'You earn and live on your own'"
Daughter: "Being stingy with children leads to being abandoned"
Even going on overseas trips without the elderly mother
A story has emerged about an elderly mother who cut off contact with her son and daughter-in-law, as well as her daughter and son-in-law, after disputes over money.
JTBC's 'Case Captain' reported on the 1st about a woman in her 70s, Ms. A, who was disowned by her children's spouses despite giving generously. Ms. A lost her husband over 40 years ago and raised her children alone while struggling to start a restaurant business. Recently, her restaurant became famous as a popular eatery on social media (SNS), and she began earning a lot of money. As the business prospered, her daughter-in-law offered to help and took charge, and Ms. A appreciated her so much that she paid her double the existing staff salary.
However, from the first day of work, the daughter-in-law made mistakes in orders and payments, creating awkward situations. She even got annoyed, blaming other part-time workers instead of reflecting on her mistakes. Later, she frequently arrived late and left early multiple times, showing an unfaithful attitude. Ms. A asked her to "try to keep the working hours and not get angry at other employees." The next day, the daughter-in-law left both the staff group chat and the family group chat and did not come to work. When Ms. A asked her son about this, he replied, "My wife said she won't work anymore." Flustered, Ms. A asked if she had hurt her feelings, and her son mentioned an incident during a recent meal when the daughter-in-law asked for a 1.5 billion won apartment. The daughter-in-law said she was upset because Ms. A told her, "You should earn the money yourselves." Eventually, Ms. A cut off contact with her son and his wife.
Later, Ms. A received a request from her daughter to "hire our son as a restaurant part-timer," so she employed her college-aged grandson for 2.5 million won per month. One day, the grandson sold alcohol to a minor without checking their ID, resulting in a business suspension. The daughter then scolded Ms. A, saying, "If you paid 5 million won instead of 2.5 million won, the kid wouldn't have done such a sloppy job, and this wouldn't have happened." Their conversation escalated into an argument, and the daughter said, "Mom, you keep being stingy with your children’s money, so you get abandoned," before leaving. Afterwards, the daughter and son-in-law traveled abroad together with the son and daughter-in-law, excluding Ms. A. Ms. A told 'Case Captain,' "My chest hurts and wakes me up every dawn. I feel like I might get sick from this," and added, "I even bought land to give to my children. Although I never said it, I prepared everything, but they treat me like this, so I feel hurt."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "The children don't understand their mother's hardships at all," "I hope she enjoys the rest of her life doing whatever she wants," and "You should never leave your inheritance to such children."
