Board Decision on Prize Money Ratio and Point System Change
Winner's Prize Increased from 200 Million Won to 250 Million Won
Participants Reduced from 77 to 60
The Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour has changed the format of its season finale.
On the 2nd, KLPGA announced that at its 6th board meeting, it decided to change the number of participants, prize money distribution ratio, and point allocation method. The winner's prize money ratio and the distribution of 대상 points for the 2024 season finale, the SK Telecom·SK Shieldus Championship, will be increased. The winner's prize money rate will be expanded from the previous 20% to 25%. The winner of the finale, which has a total prize money of 1 billion KRW, will receive 250 million KRW instead of 200 million KRW.
Additionally, the point allocation method based on total prize money has been adjusted to be the same as the major tournament point allocation. Accordingly, the winner of the finale will earn 100 points for the WeMade 대상 points, up from the previous 70 points, and 310 points for the Rookie of the Year points, up from the previous 230 points.
On the other hand, the number of participants has been reduced from 77 to 60. The eligibility criteria have also changed from ‘permanent seed players, major and regular tournament winners, recommended players, and those ranked up to 70th in prize money as of the end of the previous tournament’ to ‘permanent seed players, recommended players, and prize money rankings as of the end of the previous tournament (S-OIL Championship).’ With the change in the number of participants and eligibility for the finale, whether players secure seed rights for the next season based on prize money rankings will be decided at the tournament immediately preceding the finale, the S-OIL Championship. The season finale will be held over three days from November 8 at La Vie Belle in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
