Walking posture analysis and correction, expected to promote a ‘Walking Practice in Daily Life’ atmosphere
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) will operate a Correct Walking Class from September 23 to November 21 to promote the health of senior citizens.
This program is designed for 140 seniors (20 per neighborhood) who participated in the first half of the year’s “Senior Customized Health Management Project,” aiming to raise awareness of the importance of correct walking and to spread the practice of walking in daily life.
The “Senior Customized Health Management Project” is a preventive health management program where visiting nurses, nutritionists, exercise prescribers, and senior health leaders visit homes to provide customized services, emotional support, and encourage healthy lifestyle practices. It is currently operating for seniors aged 65 and older in 12 neighborhoods within the district and plans to expand to all 16 neighborhoods in the future.
Seniors will walk once a week for one hour until November along nearby parks such as Jungnang Stream and Kkachi Park. Exercise prescribers from the Jungnang-gu Public Health Center analyze the seniors’ walking posture to identify areas for improvement and educate them on the correct walking methods. Visiting nurses and trained senior health leaders will also accompany them to help seniors consistently practice correct walking.
The district expects this program to improve overall physical health by preventing falls through enhanced muscle strength and balance, as well as preventing chronic diseases and frailty. Additionally, participation in group programs aims to increase social bonds and emotional vitality, promoting social interaction and reducing feelings of depression.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “This program was prepared so that seniors can safely practice and make walking exercises a part of their daily lives without fall accidents.” He added, “We will continue to strive to help seniors live healthy and happy later years through various programs.”
