Equipment Donation Ceremony and Corporate Briefing to Be Held on September 26
Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) held a donation ceremony for a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with global semiconductor equipment company Hitachi High-Tech Korea on the 26th of last month at the Industry CEO Conference Room in the 10th Engineering Building on campus, and agreed to establish a cooperative relationship for nurturing semiconductor professionals.
Hitachi High-Tech Korea is one of the global top 10 semiconductor equipment companies and is a leading provider of semiconductor manufacturing, measurement, and analysis equipment solutions.
At the event, Hitachi High-Tech Korea donated a Scanning Electron Microscope (worth approximately 80 million KRW) to the Pusan National University Semiconductor Specialized University Project Group (headed by Lee Moonseok, Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering), promising close cooperation for nurturing semiconductor professionals.
After the donation ceremony, a company presentation by Hitachi High-Tech Korea and training for Pusan National University students on using the Scanning Electron Microscope were also held. Hitachi High-Tech Korea plans to discuss with Pusan National University providing opportunities for students to gain practical experience, such as field trips to experience and practice with actual semiconductor equipment.
Previously, Pusan National University was selected for various government-funded projects related to semiconductors, including the Semiconductor Specialized University Project, the Semiconductor Joint Research Institute Support Project, and the Early Employment Contract Department Leading Graduate School Project, securing a total project budget of 90 billion KRW.
Based on this, the university is establishing itself as a hub for nurturing talent to lead the semiconductor industry. In particular, the Semiconductor Specialized University Project Group, which receives a total of 32.8 billion KRW in support over four years, plans to establish new majors in Semiconductor Convergence and Semiconductor Engineering on campus, producing about 150 specialized professionals each year.
Lee Moonseok, head of the Semiconductor Specialized University Project Group at Pusan National University, said, "The Scanning Electron Microscope donated this time is a core semiconductor inspection device and will be widely used in basic practical courses," adding, "It will be a great help in nurturing talent in the semiconductor field through education that integrates theory and practice."
Jung Jucheol, Dean of the College of Engineering at Pusan National University, stated, "It is very significant that global semiconductor companies are actively supporting the nurturing of talent at our university," and predicted, "This will greatly contribute to Pusan National University's leap as a semiconductor-centered university."
Hitachi High-Tech Korea expressed its intention to continuously contribute to nurturing semiconductor professionals through cooperation with Pusan National University, not only by donating equipment but also by providing practical training and field trips related to semiconductor equipment.
Matsuoka Eiji, CEO of Hitachi High-Tech Korea, said, "As a company leading the world’s advanced semiconductor industry, Hitachi High-Tech Group will seek various ways to cooperate for nurturing semiconductor talent at Pusan National University."
