Goryeong County Conducts On-Site Inspection of Crop Heat Damage

County Governor Lee Namcheol and Others Visit Sites, Propose Support Measures for Farmers

On the 1st, Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province, along with the county governor, county council, provincial assembly members, and representatives from the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, visited strawberry and potato farms in Gaejin-myeon that are struggling with crop cultivation due to heat damage. They assessed the damage and listened to the difficulties faced by the farmers.

The average temperature in September exceeded 28°C, which is 6°C higher than the usual 22°C. As the hot weather continued, 40-50% of the strawberry seedlings in Gaejin-myeon suffered damage. Autumn potatoes, which were planted in early September, are currently experiencing poor growth in about 60% of the cultivation area, resulting in increased damage to the farms.

Although efforts are being made to increase yields through crop replanting in the ongoing heatwave, it remains difficult due to challenges in securing seedlings and seed potatoes. With the abnormal high temperatures persisting, production is expected to decrease.

County Governor Lee Namcheol stated, "We will actively respond not only to this year's situation but also to future climate changes. To increase farm income, we will improve crop cultivation periods and growth environments, provide continuous on-site technical guidance, and do our utmost to adapt to rapidly changing climates." He added, "We will actively propose support measures for farmers to North Gyeongsang Province. I would like to express my gratitude to the farmers for their efforts in producing high-quality agricultural products."
