Dong-Eui Science University Department of Medical Skin Care Embarks on Global Major Training via Cruise

Global Tourism and Life Care Industry Professional Training Program

The Department of Medical Skin Care and Beauty at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Youngdo) boarded the large cruise ship Costa Serena from September 21 to 25 and conducted the “Global Spa Therapist Training Overseas Major Program through Cruise Tour,” the first of its kind among domestic beauty-related departments.

This overseas training program, conducted as part of the 2024 Junior College Innovation Support Project (Activation of Local Junior Colleges) to foster regionally-rooted talent, was carried out in collaboration with Busan TNC (CEO Choi Jaehyung), which operates the Busan Port Medical Tourism Support Center. The goal was to provide opportunities to experience the actual operation and service provision methods of the global tourism and life care industry, to gain a comprehensive understanding of both theory and practice, and to enhance job suitability.

Through the “Samsara Spa” tour on Costa Cruise, on-site spa practical training, and visits to aesthetic companies and cultural experiences at the Karisma Institute in Hong Kong, students were given the opportunity to directly experience the practical operations and market trends of the skin care and beauty industry. It also became a valuable time to appreciate the status of K-Beauty.

Jang Junghyun, head of the Department of Medical Skin Care and Beauty at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, said, “In preparation for the full implementation of the RISE system starting in 2025, I hope that cruise spa specialists will become a model for fostering regionally-rooted talent in the Busan area. Dong-Eui Institute of Technology will take the lead as a platform so that Busan can serve as a core home port for cruises, and we will do our best in education and research to contribute to the revitalization of the Busan regional economy and the wellness tourism industry.”

The Department of Medical Skin Care and Beauty at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology also participated in the government-supported cruise crew training program linked to overseas employment, hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Ministry of Employment and Labor in 2019, making the first attempt in Korea at the departmental level to train cruise spa therapists.
