The first-ever event in the nation themed around urban parks will be held in Incheon.
On the 2nd, Incheon City announced that it will hold the '2024 Incheon Park Festa' in October, themed around urban parks, at Songdo G Tower and Sorae Wetland Ecological Park.
This event serves as a commemorative occasion to develop the Sorae area into a world-class park representing the metropolitan area, and also presents a future vision for Incheon to shed its existing gray city image and leap forward as a 'park city.'
On the 8th, a special lecture related to performances by Robert Hammond, the founder of New York's High Line Park, will be held at Songdo G Tower. Then, on the 11th at the same venue, a conference chaired by Professor Bae Jeong-han of Seoul National University will take place, featuring discussions on topics such as 'The Evolution of Urban Parks and Incheon's Challenges,' 'The Role of Parks and the Nation,' and 'Envisioning the Future of Park City Incheon.'
On the 12th, an Incheon Park exhibition will be held at Sorae Wetland Ecological Park. Materials showcasing the past and present of Incheon parks will be displayed, providing an opportunity to share the value of parks with citizens.
Alongside this, social contribution activities involving civic groups such as the Incheon Environmental Movement Federation and companies like POSCO will be conducted, and various programs allowing participants to experience Sorae’s nature and salt farm culture will be presented.
Additionally, a cultural program titled 'Here Sorae Festa' will be held against the backdrop of Sorae Wetland Ecological Park’s unique landscapes, including red halophyte plants, salt warehouses, and salt fields. The program will feature a talk concert with broadcaster Daniel Lindemann discussing the park and Sorae, followed by a jazz performance. A DJing concert will then take place against the sunset backdrop.
Participation in 'Here Sorae Festa' is through prior registration, which can be done via the QR code on the poster or through the official SNS accounts.
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok stated, "The future of parks requires public discourse involving citizens and experts on how to create them during the development process. Through this event, we aim to attract citizens’ interest and reflect diverse voices in the process of establishing urban parks."
