On the 30th, the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters reported that Firefighter Kang Mi-kyung (29) of the Goheung Fire Station Goheung 119 Safety Center witnessed and treated a motorbike traffic accident at 5:41 p.m. on the 28th while on her night shift commute. At the time, a single-vehicle motorbike accident occurred on a four-lane road in Duwon-myeon, Goheung-gun, where the driver's left arm was severed. Citizens at the scene were calling 119 and controlling traffic while ensuring safety measures. Fire and police authorities had not yet arrived.

The motorbike driver’s arm was severed below the elbow and detached. Seeing this, Firefighter Kang judged the situation to be extremely urgent. Although there was no proper emergency equipment available to treat the patient, Kang used her own belt to stop the bleeding. She also did her best to manage the emergency by preventing the patient from going into shock.

Ten minutes after the accident, a 119 ambulance arrived, and the motorbike driver was transported to the hospital, where reattachment surgery was performed. It was reported that the patient is currently recovering and fortunately has no life-threatening injuries.

Firefighter Kang was appointed in January and is now an 8-month veteran paramedic. Although she has a short career, Kang is a level 1 emergency medical technician with specialized knowledge, which allowed her to respond calmly to the sudden crisis. Kang said, "Anyone would have acted the same way in this situation," and added, "I wish the patient a speedy recovery." She emphasized, "I will continue to do my best to protect the lives and property of the residents as a paramedic."
