Typhoon 'Kraton' Turns Toward China... Only 'Indirect Impact' During Golden Holiday

Passing Taiwan, the force is expected to weaken significantly
Predicted path shifts from 'Korean Peninsula' to 'China'
Indirect typhoon impact brings 'rain' for about 3 days

Typhoon No. 18 "Kraton," moving slowly near Taiwan, is expected to weaken as it passes through Taiwan. Its projected path is also shifting toward the East China Sea, significantly reducing its impact on the Korean Peninsula.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 1st, Kraton is currently stalled near 520 km south-southwest of Taipei, Taiwan. Although it is currently classified as "very strong" with maximum wind speeds reaching 191 km/h, it is expected to weaken considerably due to the influence of Taiwan's terrain as it slowly moves northward through Taiwan. A North Pacific high-pressure system, which brought late summer heat to the Korean Peninsula, is positioned over the area, causing Kraton's projected path to shift.

Accordingly, the likelihood of significant direct damage to South Korea has decreased. However, from the 2nd to the 4th, moisture brought in by the typhoon is expected to meet cold air from the north, resulting in up to 80mm of rain mainly in the southeastern regions. If the typhoon moves northward faster than expected, rainfall amounts may increase, or rain may continue for about two days.

Temperatures, which had been higher than average until September, are expected to drop sharply after the rain and cloud bands pass on the 1st.
