"Helping Military Rehabilitation with Robot Technology"... Hyundai Motor Unveils '10M March' Video

Hyundai Motor Group released a campaign video on the 1st through its official YouTube channel, showcasing the use of the walking rehabilitation robot 'X-ble Medical EXoskeleton (X-ble MEX)' to assist injured soldiers in their rehabilitation.

This video was produced in collaboration with the Armed Forces Medical Command. It features scenes of rehabilitation training using the walking rehabilitation robot ‘X-ble MEX’ at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital, as well as the process of delivering support messages from the public to the injured soldiers.

The title of the video, '10M March,' was inspired by the fact that the hospital corridor where injured soldiers walk daily for rehabilitation can feel like a long march.

The released video shows injured soldiers overcoming difficult rehabilitation training using the ‘X-ble MEX.’ In the conventional rehabilitation process, injured soldiers repeatedly walked the 10-meter hospital corridor daily, which easily caused fatigue, and medical staff experienced significant physical strain assisting patients to stand. However, with the introduction of the ‘X-ble MEX,’ both patients and medical staff have reduced physical burdens, enabling rehabilitation to be conducted more safely and conveniently.

The ‘X-ble MEX’ donated by Hyundai Motor Group to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital is a term combining Hyundai Motor Group’s wearable robot brand X-ble and Medical EXoskeleton. It is an advanced medical rehabilitation robot independently developed by Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Headquarters Robotics Lab. Developed for lower limb rehabilitation, this robot supports walking rehabilitation and enables various training movements beyond simple walking assistance for rehabilitation.

The narration for this campaign video is provided by national merit recipient Jihoon Lee, who overcame injuries sustained during military service and won a bronze medal in ice hockey at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympics.

A Hyundai Motor Group official stated, “Under the social responsibility message of ‘The Right Movement Toward a Sustainable Future,’ we are carrying out various social contribution activities focused on three key areas: mobility, safety, and eco-friendly/future generations. We plan to continue operating campaigns that utilize the group’s new technologies to support public service workers who dedicate themselves to the nation, such as military personnel.”
