Gwanak-gu Opens 'Gwanak Forest' Shelter for Mobile Workers in Sillim-dong

Mobile Workers' Shelter 'Gwanak Forest (For Rest)' (Sillim-dong 1471-5 area) Open 24 Hours
Providing Various Amenities Including Motorcycle Parking, Hot and Cold Water Dispensers, and Mobile Phone Chargers

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has established a rest shelter for mobile workers called ‘Gwanak Forest (For Rest)’ in Sillim-dong.

Gwanak-gu has the highest proportion of single-person households among Seoul’s districts, with 62% of all households being single-person. In particular, Sillim-dong has the largest number of delivery service app accesses in Seoul, indicating a high demand for mobile workers in the area.

Accordingly, Gwanak-gu has set up a rest shelter near Sillim Station for mobile workers who frequently move due to the nature of their jobs?such as delivery and courier drivers, substitute drivers, home tutors, and insurance planners?who face difficulties due to the lack of fixed resting spaces.

The shelter is a 14.8㎡ (approximately 4.5 pyeong) space located along the Byeolbitnaerincheon roadside near Sillim Station (Sillim-dong 1471-5, near Bonglimgyo Bicycle Repair Center), and its opening ceremony was held on September 27.

About 30 people attended the opening ceremony, including Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, delivery rider representatives, and local residents.

The shelter provides parking space for two-wheeled vehicles and is equipped with heating and cooling facilities inside, including phone chargers, Wi-Fi, and hot and cold water dispensers.

Additionally, security facilities such as access authentication devices and CCTV are installed, allowing safe use of the shelter 24 hours a day, year-round.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “The mobile workers’ rest shelter is an essential facility in the current situation where climate change is accelerating, causing extreme heatwaves and monsoons in summer and severe cold waves in winter. We will further accelerate various support projects to guarantee the rest rights of mobile workers who are in the blind spots of labor welfare and to improve their safe working environment.”
