The government recently held a meeting on the 30th with related agencies to review safety and protection measures for overseas Koreans in response to the escalating situation in the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Kang In-seon, the 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated at the meeting that the Middle East situation has become very unstable following the death of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, and strongly urged Koreans residing in Lebanon and Israel to promptly leave using available flights and ships.
He also emphasized the need to review evacuation plans for Koreans in Lebanon in case of emergencies and called for full efforts to ensure the safety of overseas Koreans in the Middle East through close cooperation among the headquarters, diplomatic missions, and relevant ministries.
As of the previous day, there are approximately 140 Koreans residing in Lebanon and about 480 in Israel.
Currently, a Level 3 travel advisory (recommendation to leave) is in effect for Lebanon and Israel. Since the 7th of last month, a Level 4 travel advisory (travel ban) has been issued for the border areas between the two countries.
Recently, Israel has launched a series of intense attacks against pro-Iran armed groups, including eliminating the Hezbollah leader, causing tensions in the Middle East to reach a peak.
