President Yoon Suk-yeol emphasized on the 30th that "the path of reform is arduous" and that "these are tasks accompanied by pain, but they are things that must be done immediately for the sustainable growth of the Republic of Korea."
On the same day, at the 60th anniversary ceremony of the Korea Economic Daily held at Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, President Yoon said, "We must become the world's freest and most innovative top-tier advanced country."
President Yoon stated, "Since the launch of our government, we have devoted efforts to laying a new foundation for Korea's leap forward," adding, "We shifted the economic policy to a free market and private sector-centered economy and established a sound fiscal policy to avoid passing debt onto future generations."
He continued, "We have boldly abolished unnecessary regulations and significantly increased investment in science and technology so that companies can enhance their competitiveness through innovation," explaining, "By building a stable supply chain based on strong solidarity with countries that share our values, we are establishing a foundation that allows economic activities to be conducted freely without concerns about economic security."
President Yoon further stated that the government is accelerating social structural reforms essential for Korea's survival and future, including pension reform, labor reform, education reform, and medical reform.
He said, "Pension reform is being pursued under the three major principles of sustainability, intergenerational fairness, and securing income for old age, undertaking substantial reforms that no previous government dared to attempt," and added, "Labor reform will properly protect workers and enhance economic dynamism by expanding individual workers' choices and improving corporate competitiveness."
He also emphasized, "We are vigorously promoting education reform to enhance the competitiveness of future generations, including the integration of kindergartens, elementary, and secondary schools (Yubotonghap) and the Neulbom School," and stressed, "Above all, we are putting all our efforts into medical reform to protect the lives and health of the people."
President Yoon concluded, "If we overcome the current difficulties together, a bright future surely awaits beyond reform," and stated, "To continue Korea's growth and prosperity, we will definitely complete the four major structural reforms."
