Woo Chairman "Government's Role Decisive in Dialogue"
Han Representative "No Big Difference Between Government and Medical Community Views"
Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik and People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon agreed on the 30th that a consultative body involving the ruling party, opposition, government, and medical sector should be promptly formed to find a solution to the legislative conflict.
On the same day, Speaker Woo met with Leader Han at the National Assembly and stated, "It has already been eight months since the legislative conflict began, but the formation of the consultative body is not progressing well, causing great concern and anxiety among the public. It is truly frustrating," emphasizing the need to resolve the legislative conflict. This meeting reportedly took place after Speaker Woo proposed to Leader Han that they discuss legislative issues and the consultative body involving the ruling party, opposition, government, and medical sector.
He continued, "The emergency medical field is already experiencing significant fatigue accumulation, and with the weather getting colder, the likelihood of fractures and cardiovascular diseases increasing is high," adding, "Therefore, the necessity to properly normalize emergency medical services at the emergency sites is becoming increasingly urgent."
He also stressed, "Above all, dialogue comes first," and added, "Once dialogue begins, the government's role becomes critically important, and it is also the government's role to bring the medical community to the dialogue table and facilitate discussions."
Leader Han said, "I believe that starting dialogue is more than half the solution, and we are making efforts," adding, "I think the positions of the medical community and the government are not as far apart as people outside might think." He further mentioned, "I believe we are nearing the final decision-making stage for the launch, making the formation of the consultative body involving the ruling party, opposition, government, and medical sector more important than ever."
Leader Han particularly emphasized, "I expect the government to be more flexible than the public fears. Although the medical community may have various grievances, ultimately, this issue requires all of us to come together under the absolute value of protecting the health and lives of the people."
During the private meeting, Speaker Woo requested Leader Han to make efforts so that the government can be more flexible, and Leader Han asked Speaker Woo to personally persuade the medical community and requested active participation from the opposition party, according to Han Ji-ah, chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, who briefed reporters. The chief spokesperson added that Speaker Woo responded by saying he would continue direct meetings with the medical community and strive for their participation in the consultative body.
