50 Citizens Awarded for Contributions to City Development in Various Fields

On the 35th anniversary of Hanam City's elevation to city status, the opening ceremony of the Iseongsanseong Cultural Festival, held alongside the commemorative ceremony, was successfully held on the 28th at the Hanam Culture and Arts Center Eoul Madang. This year's Hanam Citizens' Day ceremony was prepared under the concept of "Hanam City, the Center of K-Culture," creating a harmonious event where 330,000 citizens reminisced about Hanam City's development over the past 35 years.
The event began with a spectacular calligraphy (handwriting) performance that marked the start of the festival, followed by ▲opening declaration and congratulatory performance ▲awards ceremony ▲commemorative speech (Mayor of Hanam) and congratulatory speeches (National Assembly members, Chairman of Hanam City Council, etc.) ▲chorus of the Hanam Citizens' Song ▲and a final congratulatory performance for the entire event.
At the awards ceremony, a total of 50 citizens who contributed to the development of various municipal sectors received commendations in the order of ▲Gyeonggi Province Governor (8 people) ▲Mayor of Hanam (14 people) ▲Chairman of Hanam City Council (14 people) ▲National Assembly members (14 people).
Following this, at the appreciation and scholarship certificate presentation ceremony, 14 recipients from six categories received awards: ▲outstanding volunteer (1 person) ▲donors (2 people) ▲excellent entrepreneurs and medical institutions (3 people) ▲distinguished military service families (2 families) ▲childbirth encouragement (families with multiple children, 3 families) ▲and scholarship students (3 people).
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae emphasized in his commemorative speech, "Hanam City, with 330,000 citizens and public officials united in one heart, has achieved remarkable results by ranking 4th in the metropolitan area and 2nd in Gyeonggi Province in the 2024 Social Safety Index - Livable Areas survey, advancing as a 'city where people want to live.'"
He further presented a vision to build a self-sufficient city by focusing on "culture" and "economy" as two pillars to attract companies and create quality jobs, noting that Hanam City's per capita Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) remains at about 27 million KRW, ranking 17th in Gyeonggi Province.
Mayor Lee stated, "Hanam City is transforming into a cultural festival city by hosting various performances such as the Iseong Fortress Cultural Festival, regional busking performances, and Music in Hanam, which offer the joy of cultural enjoyment. Based on this city brand, we will make every effort to successfully promote the K-Star World project, which is expected to attract 30 million tourists annually, create 50,000 jobs, and generate an economic effect of about 10 trillion KRW, thereby advancing as a 'Global K-Culture Hub City.'"
He added, "We will create a high-tech industrial complex through the development of Camp Colbern, a former U.S. military return site, and the Gyosan New Town. Based on this, we will attract large-scale enterprises to create quality jobs and opportunities, and strive to build a foundation where all Hanam citizens can grow."
At the event, popera singer Song Eun-hye performed the opening congratulatory performance in line with the concept of "Hanam City, the Center of K-Culture." The festival's grand finale featured singer Hwanhee, known for his sweet voice and outstanding vocal skills, and singer Kim Tae-yeon, who gained nationwide popularity through TV Chosun's audition program "Miss Trot 2."
Additionally, the "2024 Hanam Iseong Fortress Cultural Festival," themed "Iseong Universe," which moved 3,500 spectators deeply, successfully concluded on the 29th.
Hanam City's representative autumn festival, the Hanam Iseong Fortress Cultural Festival, featured various programs including ▲opening ceremony and Citizens' Day celebration ▲Light Festa ▲Treasure Run ▲historical guided tours ▲and Iseong Fortress Village.
The second annual "Light Festa" offered an even more splendid night hiking experience than the previous year, utilizing more elaborate decorations and lighting equipment. This year, the unique stories of the Iseong Fortress excavation and relics were expressed through light and exhibition sculptures, naturally conveying the value of national heritage to citizens.
Moreover, seven exhibits were optimally located to harmonize with nature without restricting historical sites and facilities. The route was designed to ensure maximum safety and convenience for visitors, while also considering aesthetic aspects, earning high praise from attendees.
The newly introduced interactive game "Treasure Run" provided citizens with a unique experience of finding treasures via smartphones, gaining great popularity.
