September 30, Strengthening Support for Small and Medium Businesses Through MOU Signing
Aiming to Prevent Industrial Accidents and Create Safe Work Environments for Small and Medium Enterprises
The Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) signed a "Business Agreement for the Expansion of Industrial Accident Prevention in Small Businesses in the Busan Area" with the Busan-Ulsan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Federation of SMEs at the conference room on the 8th floor of the Busan Federation Building on September 30.
The agreement ceremony was attended by Gong Heungdoo, Head of Busan Regional Headquarters at KOSHA, and Jang Yunseong, Head of the Busan-Ulsan Regional Headquarters at the Korea Federation of SMEs.
The two organizations pledged to work together to prevent industrial accidents and promote a culture of safety by strengthening support for small-scale businesses in the Busan area, in response to the recent expansion of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees.
The main points of the agreement include: ▲Establishing a self-regulatory prevention system for SMEs ▲Jointly promoting campaigns, publicity, and distribution of safety and health materials to spread safety awareness and culture ▲Promoting increased participation of SMEs in KOSHA's financial support programs ▲Providing education and safety inspections for employers and workers ▲Conducting promotional activities to prevent industrial accidents.
As the first project following the agreement, KOSHA will support industrial accident prevention education for foreign workers at SMEs during the "Briefing Session on Utilization of Foreign Workers," which is scheduled to be held by the Korea Federation of SMEs at the Busan Shipbuilding & Offshore Equipment Cooperative Association at 2 p.m. on October 11.
Gong Heungdoo, Head of Busan Regional Headquarters at KOSHA, stated, "Through this business agreement with the Korea Federation of SMEs, we will be able to provide substantial support to SMEs struggling with the expanded enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act," and added, "We will accurately identify the actual conditions at small businesses and discover their difficulties, and then prepare appropriate support measures accordingly."
