Four 'Women Safety Streets' Established in Baekseok, Gwangjeok, and Others... Strengthening Local Safety Network Yangju City has designated four locations?Bangseong-ri in Baekseok-eup, Ganap-ri in Gwangjeok-myeon, Ilyeong-ri in Jangheung-myeon, and Deokgye-dong?as women’s safety zones.

Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 30th that it has designated four locations?Bangseong-ri in Baekseok-eup, Ganap-ri in Gwangjeok-myeon, Ilyeong-ri in Jangheung-myeon, and Deokgye-dong?as Women’s Safety Streets.

At the four designated safety streets, safety infrastructure such as CCTV, LED signboards, logo projectors, and smart security systems have been installed to create an environment where women and socially vulnerable groups can feel safe walking at night.

To select these four target areas, the city consulted with the Yangju Police Station and comprehensively considered factors such as the prevention of crimes against women (violence, stalking, dating violence, sexual crimes) and the protection of socially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, taking into account major nighttime return routes and crime rates against women.

The city plans to promote additional Women’s Safety Street projects by 2026 to build customized local safety infrastructure and eliminate blind spots in crime prevention.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun stated, “The creation of Women’s Safety Streets focuses not only on women but also on creating an environment where socially vulnerable groups can live safely. We will continuously promote the installation of safety infrastructure for safe return routes and crime prevention to foster a culture of gender equality, and through cooperative activities with related organizations, we will strive to create a safe urban environment for everyone.”
