Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province announced that the Yeongnam Headquarters of the National Railroad Authority is conducting test runs to verify facilities, aiming to open the Donghae Line railway this December.
The test runs for the Donghae Line are being carried out on the 172.8 km electrification section from Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province to Donghae in Gangwon Province. Trains such as KTX-Eum and ITX-Maum are being used for these runs. All aspects of the line, including signal systems, communication line facilities, and running tests, are planned to be inspected by the end of October.
The train operation plan for the Donghae Line is expected to be finalized in November, and detailed matters such as station stops, operation times, and train types are also expected to be decided together.
Initially, ITX-Maum and Nuriro are being considered for operation, and after analyzing ridership and train demand, KTX-Eum is expected to be introduced in 2026.
County Governor Son Byeongbok stated, "With the opening of Uljin's first railway, we expect not only the local economy but also tourism and various other sectors in Uljin to develop," adding, "We will do our best to serve as a catalyst for regional development."
