Huneed Technologies (hereinafter Huneed) is pioneering the first export path in the tactical communication sector of K-defense through the upgrade of the High Capacity Trunk Radio System (HCTRS), which is currently operational and deployed in the Republic of Korea Armed Forces.
On the 26th, Huneed announced that it signed an agreement with the Agency for Defense Development (KRIT) to commence the modification and development of the export-type HCTRS under the Weapon System Modification and Development Support Project. This project supports the modification and development of weapon systems and components with export potential to transform the defense industry into an export-oriented industrial structure.
Developed with Huneed’s proprietary technology, the HCTRS plays a pivotal role as a core system in tactical information communication systems, which are central to today’s Network Centric Warfare, and has been in the process of deployment since 2016.
Huneed will upgrade the HCTRS, which has been deployed in the Korean military for the past decade and whose tactical value has been verified, into an export-type model tailored to the requirements of export target countries.
The company plans to integrate high-power 5G equipment compatible with major overseas allies such as the U.S. military and EU/NATO, and develop an “Integrated Wireless Access Transmission System” that doubles the existing transmission capacity, enabling wireless backhaul and 5G-based personal terminal services.
Through this, the military will be able to establish an independent 5G communication network within its garrison, connecting not only soldiers’ mobile terminals but also numerous IoT devices, allowing for high-speed transmission of large volumes of data. This is expected to be applicable to various scenarios such as AR/VR-based training and unmanned surveillance.
The future battlefield environment is expanding into a multidimensional domain that includes not only land, sea, and air but also space and cyberspace. As data is expected to be generated and consumed from numerous military IoT devices deployed on the battlefield, Huneed plans to accelerate exports by implementing an optimal network system in line with these changes in the battlefield environment.
In fact, regarding military communication equipment exports, Huneed was selected earlier this year as the preferred negotiator for the Cameroon defense communication network modernization project, and discussions with the Cameroon government are reportedly ongoing, raising expectations for future developments.
Kim Wang-kyung, CEO of Huneed, stated, “Following the successful development of the MANET solution, a communication terminal for combatants, through aggressive recent investments, we are now promoting the development of the export-type HCTRS, which handles the base communication network. This positions Huneed as a ‘total solution provider’ offering all equipment that constitutes tactical communication networks.” He added, “We will devote all efforts to overseas marketing to ensure that equipment developed purely with domestic technology can capture the global market.”
