Purchase of 22,943 Desktop Computers This Year
Increased Efficiency in Education Finance Management and Reduced Workload
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Changsu) has increased the efficiency of educational budget management by saving 3.018 billion KRW this year through joint purchases of IT equipment.
Since 2015, the Ulsan Office of Education has operated a system for joint purchasing of items needed at schools, such as IT equipment, every year.
This year, 214 schools and institutions participated, jointly purchasing 4,910 IT devices (1,947 desktop computers, 2,007 monitors, and 956 laptops), saving 1.537 billion KRW in the process.
In particular, in September, the office achieved additional savings of 1.481 billion KRW?about 10% of the budget?by jointly purchasing 18,033 tablets for student use. As a result, approximately 15.6% of this year's total budget of 19.349 billion KRW, or 3.018 billion KRW, was saved.
The joint purchasing system allows for significant budget savings and increased efficiency in educational finance management by applying high discount rates through bulk purchases. Schools and institutions also benefit from reduced administrative burdens by skipping complicated purchasing procedures.
To further activate the joint purchasing system, the Ulsan Office of Education collects feedback from schools every year, and survey results show that more than 90% of schools are satisfied with the system.
An official from the Ulsan Office of Education stated, "We will continue to actively gather diverse opinions from schools, expand the range of items available for joint purchase, and diversify product specifications to broaden schools' choices, thereby further vitalizing the joint purchasing system."
