'Google for Korea 2024' Event at Yesul-ui Jeondang
Google Korea announced that it will hold the 'Google for Korea 2024' event on the 30th at the Music Square of the Seoul Arts Center to celebrate 20 years of partnership with South Korea since 2004. The event will be attended by various Google executives and domestic and international figures, including Simon Khan, Vice President of Marketing for Google Asia Pacific, and Kim Kyung-hoon, President of Google Korea.
Now in its fourth year, this event will especially commemorate the 20th anniversary of Google Korea’s establishment by reflecting on the milestones Google has achieved together with South Korea. It will also provide an opportunity to review South Korea’s innovative technologies and culture that have expanded onto the global stage through partnerships with various Korean companies, developers, startups, and creators. Additionally, the event will share cases of the globalization of K-pop, which has spread worldwide through YouTube, and discuss the future roles and missions of Google Korea based on AI leadership.

Furthermore, to mark its 20th anniversary, Google Korea released a report highlighting Google’s extensive role, contributions, and future outlook regarding South Korea’s digital development over the past 20 years. According to the report titled "Google and South Korea: 20 Years of Partnership and Innovation through AI," prepared by the global consulting firm Access Partnership, Google has generated approximately 131 trillion KRW (107 billion USD) in economic value from 2004 to 2023. Notably, in 2023 alone, it recorded an economic impact of 37 trillion KRW (28 billion USD). Of this, 38% originated from exports through Google, demonstrating Google’s active support for Korean companies’ entry into global markets.
The report analyzed that through Google’s technologies and platforms, a cumulative total of 552,000 jobs have been created, contributing to South Korea’s economic development and job stability, and playing a pivotal role in the growth of the Korean mobile ecosystem. It also introduced the new economic era and prospects driven by AI leadership, Google’s collaboration for the advancement of AI technology in South Korea, innovation partnerships with companies, and growth cases with K-startups.
Vice President Simon Khan stated, "South Korea is a market with special significance for Google," adding, "Google takes pride in the journey of creating the future together with Korea and will contribute to building a better world through advanced technologies including AI."
