Socar announced on the 30th that it conducted accessibility information collection activities for mobility-impaired individuals and their companions, including people with disabilities and the elderly, in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Gyedanppusyeo Club.
Gyedanppusyeo Club is a nonprofit organization established in 2021 to build a mobility information platform for mobility-impaired individuals and their companions. Accessibility information, voluntarily collected by citizens, is built into and managed through their self-developed application, "Gyedan Jeongbok Jido" (Stair Conquest Map). To date, the app provides information on approximately 26,000 locations collected by more than 2,000 citizens.
This accessibility information collection activity took place in the commercial area around Hongdae Ipgu Station, a district densely packed with shops. A Socar representative explained the reason for selecting this area, saying, "We focused on helping mobility-impaired individuals enjoy Seoul’s representative hot spots without barriers, just like non-disabled people."
Socar employees visited buildings, restaurants, cafes, and other establishments to photograph key facilities such as store entrances and upload them to the Gyedan Jeongbok Jido app. They also surveyed and registered accessibility information, including the presence of stairs, elevators, and ramps. Additionally, they personally wrote and posted useful supplementary information such as in-store congestion levels and parking availability. On that day, over 20 employees collected information on about 170 locations, including around 100 restaurants and 50 cafes.
Since signing a business agreement with Gyedanppusyeo Club earlier this year, Socar has continued activities to enhance the mobility rights of mobility-impaired individuals. In April, Socar and the global automotive parts company CTR Group signed a business agreement with Gyedanppusyeo Club aiming to create a safe and free mobility environment for everyone. Since then, through joint funding for Gyedanppusyeo Club’s operating expenses, hosting activities for Socar members, and supporting promotion of Gyedanppusyeo Club linked with the Socar platform, they have contributed to solving mobility rights issues for mobility-impaired individuals.
Jaeuk Park, CEO of Socar, stated, "Going forward, to realize Socar’s mission of 'creating a world where everyone moves freely and happily,' we will make comprehensive efforts ranging from service advancement to social contribution activities."
