Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will hold a healthy walking experience event at Yangjaecheon on October 4th from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. About 400 residents will walk approximately 6 km (about 10,000 steps) to check the blood sugar improvement effect before and after walking, and experience six health booths set up along the walking course.
This event was planned to allow participants to experience the practical effects of walking. Blood sugar levels are measured before walking and compared again after walking to confirm the benefits of walking. This method, introduced in 2023, has shown an average decrease in blood sugar from 130 mg/dl to 106 mg/dl, receiving high praise from residents.
The walking course starts at the north end of Yeongdong 3-gyo Bridge and splits toward the north end of Yeongdong 5-gyo Bridge and the south end of Yeongdong 4-gyo Bridge, then returns to Yeongdong 3-gyo Bridge after the turnaround point. Six health experience booths operate along the course, including ▲ blood sugar measurement ▲ self-magnetic resonance analysis to check physical function decline such as vascular and brain function ▲ ear therapy to check health status through the ear ▲ mental health management measuring stress index ▲ traditional Korean medical support from Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital ▲ and a body shape analysis program by Jihae Well.
Participants receive a stamp each time they visit a booth, and upon reaching the final destination, they are given a small prize. Residents who wish to participate can apply through the online link posted in the district office announcements.
District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong said, “I hope this event held at Yangjaecheon, a famous walking spot in Gangnam, provides residents with an opportunity to experience healthy lifestyle habits and personally feel the importance of walking,” adding, “We will continue to expand various programs that create healthy daily habits.”
