Songpa-gu to Hold Senior Citizens' Month Event on October 2 at Songpa Senior Welfare Center from 10:30 AM ▲Meritorious Service Awards ▲Celebratory Performances ▲Health Checkups ▲Photo Zone ▲Nail Art Experience etc.

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold the ‘2024 Senior Citizens Month Commemoration Event’ at the Songpa Senior Welfare Center on October 2nd in celebration of Senior Citizens Day and Senior Citizens Month.


October 2nd is designated as 'Senior Citizens Day' under the Elderly Welfare Act, and October is also recognized as Senior Citizens Month. 'Senior Citizens Day' has been a legal commemorative day since 1997, marking its 28th anniversary this year.


The district will hold the Senior Citizens Month commemoration event on October 2nd from 10:30 AM at the main auditorium of the Songpa Senior Welfare Center located in Samjeon-dong, expressing respect and gratitude toward the elderly.


On this day, commendations will be awarded to four individuals who have contributed to the promotion of elderly welfare through exemplary activities in the local community. The awardees are: Kwon Young-ae and Seo Myeong-hee, who have worked hard to protect the elderly through customized elderly care services; Kim Hyo-nam, who contributed to the happy lives of the elderly through various volunteer activities; and Choi Woong-jin, who has greatly helped improve the educational environment for the welfare center’s elderly through continuous sponsorship for eight years.

The congratulatory performances will begin with a pre-event performance by children from Samjeon Daycare Center and the Dongsimcho Choir of the Songpa Senior Welfare Center, followed by magic shows and performances by the Music Sharing Volunteer Group, providing the elderly with an enjoyable and meaningful time.


Additionally, special side events will be held throughout the welfare center. These include health checkups sponsored by Daejeon University Oriental Medicine Hospital and Jamsil Bright Eye Clinic to monitor the health status of the elderly; nostalgic paper lottery boards; nail art experiences; and photo zones. Furthermore, snacks sponsored by Paris Baguette (Munjeong Culture Valley branch) and souvenirs sponsored by AST Korea will be distributed to attending seniors.


Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “The reason South Korea has been able to develop into an advanced country today is thanks to the efforts and dedication of our senior citizens,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that the elderly are not marginalized, are respected, and enjoy a healthy and happy old age.”


Meanwhile, Songpa-gu operates various leisure and health promotion programs for the elderly to enjoy, and is expanding job creation projects. The district is also mobilizing administrative efforts to support elderly welfare, including providing a living allowance of 70,000 won each to low-income elderly living alone.
