Listening to Opinions of Director and General Deputy Director... "Discussion on Forming Emergency Response Committee"

Korea Academy of Science and Technology Holds Emergency Temporary Board Meeting to Discuss Director's Power Abuse Allegations Wookjun Yoo, President of the National Academy of Science and Technology

The Korea Academy of Science and Technology, where issues of workplace power abuse and moral laxity involving the President and the Executive Vice President were raised, announced on the 29th that it held an extraordinary board meeting on the 27th to discuss the current situation.

The Academy stated that the board listened to the opinions of President Yu Wook-jun and Executive Vice President Lee Chang-hee, reached a consensus on the seriousness of the current situation and the need to improve the institution's operation and management system, and plans to discuss specific improvement measures such as the formation and operation of an emergency response committee at the next board meeting.

The Academy declared, "Taking this controversy as an opportunity, we will establish a transparent management system and transform into an institution that fulfills its social responsibility and role as a gathering of leading scholars in the field of science and technology."

This extraordinary board meeting was held after President Yu and Executive Vice President Lee were summoned as witnesses at the National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee hearing due to issues of workplace power abuse.

According to sources in the science and technology community, since his inauguration in 2022, President Yu has used official vehicles dozens of times during non-working hours such as weekends, holidays, and Chuseok, falsified meeting minutes, and paid allowances to attendees after playing golf.

Executive Vice President Lee has also been criticized by public opinion for reportedly engaging in sexual harassment, personal errands, and coercion toward employees from March 2022 until recently during his tenure.
