Geumcheon-gu Designates Byeoljanggil and Beopwondanjigil Alley Commercial Areas as New 'Alley-type Shopping Districts'

Designation of Geumha-ro 24-gil Area (Byeoljanggil) and Doksan-ro 36-gil to 50-gil Area (Beobwondanjigil)
Use of Onnuri Gift Certificates and Various Supports Equivalent to Traditional Markets Including Environmental Improvements Available

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the alley commercial districts of Byeoljanggil in Siheung-dong and Beobwondanjigil have been newly designated as “Alley-type Shopping Districts.”

“Alley-type Shopping Districts” is a system created to support alley commercial districts that do not fall under traditional markets or shopping districts but meet certain conditions. Previously, the designation criteria were strict, making it difficult for eligible areas to be designated.

In March, the district lowered the barriers for designation by amending the “Ordinance on the Designation and Revitalization Support of Alley-type Shopping Districts in Geumcheon-gu,” removing unnecessary registration requirements.

Accordingly, the alley commercial districts of Byeoljanggil (around Geumha-ro 24-gil) and Beobwondanjigil (around Doksan-ro 36-gil to 50-gil) have been newly designated as “Alley-type Shopping Districts,” enabling them to receive support and benefits comparable to traditional markets, such as affiliation with Onnuri gift certificates.

Byeoljanggil’s commercial environment has improved through alley revitalization projects conducted from 2020 to 2023, and it is connected to various projects such as Siheung Haenggung and Byeoljangeo.

Additionally, after being designated as an alley-type shopping district, the commercial area can be revitalized by linking with the nearby Eunhaengnamu Market.

Beobwondanjigil serves as a passageway for residential areas and has many potential customers, so it is expected to develop further together with the nearby Hyundai Market after its designation as an alley-type shopping district.

Mayor Yu Seong-hoon stated, “With this new designation of alley-type shopping districts, we hope that alley merchants who have been excluded from support will have an opportunity to recover,” and added, “We will continue to provide various support to secure the competitiveness of alley commercial districts.”

The district is promoting various commercial revitalization projects in a total of four alley-type shopping districts, including the two newly designated locations, Jeonghun Hanmaeum Alley Market (2022), and Cheonridan-gil Alley-type Shopping District (2023).
