October 1, 10:00 AM at BEXCO: 'Demo Day Pitching' Event for Outstanding Tourism Startups in Busan
Securing Global Investment Opportunities Linked to 'FLY ASIA', Follow-up Support by UNWTO and Plans to Strengthen Corporate Competitiveness
Busan Metropolitan City, together with the Busan Tourism Organization, will host the 'FLY ASIA - Tourism Startup Challenge' competition at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1 on October 1 at 10 a.m.
At this event, seven outstanding companies selected from this year's 'Busan Tourism Startup Contest' hosted by the Busan Tourism Enterprise Support Center, as well as excellent companies among Busan tourism startups, will present their main business content. After presentations and evaluations, three final companies will be selected for further support through a 'Demo Day' event, which provides opportunities for investment and promotion.
The event will proceed in the following order: ▲ Keynote speech at the opening ceremony by the UN Tourism Organization ▲ 10-minute presentations per company (7 minutes for presentation, 3 minutes for Q&A) ▲ On-site evaluation ▲ Awards ceremony.
The three final selected companies will receive prize money and advanced consulting provided by the Busan Tourism Enterprise Support Center, as well as certificates and participation rights in UN Tourism Organization programs.
The city plans to provide a stage for Busan tourism startups to present at the Asia Startup Expo 'FLY ASIA 2024', where global investors gather, thereby securing networking opportunities for investment in the tourism sector.
Until now, technology startups in the tourism sector have had relatively few opportunities to be exposed to the global investment ecosystem or to network for investment compared to other sectors, and have mainly generated business activities within related fields such as the travel and tourism industry.
To address this, the city aims to leverage the investment ecosystem network of 'FLY ASIA', which is now in its third year and has established itself as a leading global startup investment event in Asia, to create synergistic effects through collaboration.
In addition, this event is being co-hosted with the UN Tourism Organization, which will provide expert judges, as well as follow-up support such as an innovative investment system and startup acceleration programs.
This event is the second official collaboration with the UN Tourism Organization this year, following the joint hosting of the 'International Tourism City Forum' in August.
After signing a joint cooperation letter of intent for 'Sustainable Tourism Development between Busan City and the UN Tourism Organization' in May, the city has been rapidly pursuing collaborative projects.
The UN Tourism Organization will support the event by providing two experts from its Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation Department and Innovation, Education, and Investment Department as judges. In addition, it will offer policy support such as ▲ manpower support for presenting, evaluating, and summarizing investment innovation agendas linked to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ▲ awards in the name of the UN Tourism Organization for selected companies, participation in the online academy, and invitations to the innovation network.
Park Geunrok, Director of the Tourism MICE Bureau of Busan, stated, "We hope this event will provide an opportunity for outstanding tourism companies in Busan to expand into the global investment ecosystem. In particular, we hope the support from the UN Tourism Organization will become a meaningful stepping stone for the selected companies to create new business opportunities."
