Exhibition 'Mickey In(in) Deoksugung: Art, Beyond Boundaries'
Mickey Mouse, the founding icon of Walt Disney, has donned a hanbok. This is showcased through the exhibition "Mickey in(in) Deoksugung: Art, Beyond Boundaries" held at Deokdeokjeon Hall in Deoksugung Palace, presented by the Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace and Royal Tombs Division in collaboration with Walt Disney Company Korea.

Opening on the 28th, this exhibition was prepared since June this year by the Cultural Heritage Administration and Disney Korea to enhance the traditional value of national heritage and widely promote it both domestically and internationally.
Disney characters known as "Mickey and Friends" visit Deokdeokjeon Hall, blending naturally with royal heritage, depicted through nine works by young artists and intangible heritage holders.
In particular, artist Una-young (pen name Heukyoseok), a national heritage ambassador, presents "Mickey and Friends" traveling through Korea and experiencing various national heritages including Deoksugung, captured on a six-panel folding screen. The work is inspired by the traditional palace painting of the Ten Symbols of Longevity (십장생도, Sibjangsaengdo). Mickey and Minnie in traditional wedding attire and Donald Duck dressed in hanbok are featured on the folding screen.
Artist Kim Se-dong created a digital print work depicting Disney characters enjoying themselves in front of the palace.
Artist Bu-won reinterpreted Disney characters standing on lotus flowers in ceramics.
In the field of contemporary art, artist Jang Seung-jin and dancheong (traditional multicolored paintwork) master An Yu-jin collaborated on a work featuring Mickey's hand as the subject.
At the pond in Deoksugung, visitors are greeted by a balloon sculpture by artist Kang Jae-won, depicting Disney characters walking on a bird.
During the exhibition, photo zones with Disney character sculptures will be set up throughout Deoksugung for visitors to take pictures.
Lee Su-hyun of the group AKMU filmed a music video reinterpreting Disney theme songs against the backdrop of Seokjojeon Hall, which will be released on the Cultural Heritage Administration's YouTube channel and other platforms.
The exhibition runs until October 20. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., except Mondays when Deoksugung is closed. Kang Jae-won's work displayed at the pond can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Walt Disney, the founder of Disney, used to say, "Everything started with a mouse." Disney animations still invariably begin with Mickey Mouse steering a ship's wheel and whistling. This mouse was first introduced to the world in Disney's 1928 short animation "Steamboat Willie."
