Hwang Kyung-ah, a member of the Nam-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, has been elected as the Chairwoman of the Women’s Committee of the Democratic Party’s Gwangju Metropolitan City Branch.

Councilwoman Hwang said, "I will reflect on the meaning of each vote sent by party members and make the Women’s Committee a stronghold for female party members," adding, "I will take the lead in ensuring that the Gwangju Women’s Committee plays a pioneering and central role in the 2026 local elections and the development of local autonomy."

She continued, "Until now, I have carried out my legislative activities with conviction, albeit modestly, for the development of Gwangju, but from now on, I will play a role like a candle to represent the rights and interests of women in Gwangju," and added, "I would like to once again thank everyone who trusted and supported me."

Three candidates, including Councilwoman Hwang, ran for the position of Chairwoman of the Women’s Committee of the Democratic Party’s Gwangju Metropolitan City Branch, and Hwang was elected through voting on the 27th.

As her election pledges, Councilwoman Hwang proposed ▲ establishing a communication community and local network for female party members ▲ operating the Gwangju Women’s Political Academy ▲ establishing the Gwangju Women’s Policy Research Institute and forming a women’s policy alliance ▲ building a mentoring system for aspiring new female politicians ▲ regularizing exchanges between democratic female politicians from Yeongnam and Honam regions.
