Attendance at the '2024 Sangju New Energy Industry Development Conference' and More
Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City, visited Shangzhou City, China, from the 24th to the 27th to discuss economic cooperation between the two cities and the development of the new energy industry. The Namyangju delegation, consisting of Mayor Joo Gwang-deok and officials from the Eastern Gyeonggi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, marked the first visit since COVID-19, serving as an important opportunity to reactivate exchanges between the two cities.
On the first day of the visit, the delegation attended an official meeting hosted by Mayor Sheng Lei of Shangzhou City. Mayor Sheng Lei introduced the achievements of economic development policies, investment attraction, industrial complex establishment, and talent cultivation pursued since the 1990s, and explained the economic development history of Shangzhou City, which surpassed a GDP of 1 trillion yuan (approximately 189 trillion KRW) last year.
At the same event, Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju and Mayor Sheng Lei of Shangzhou celebrated the 25th anniversary of their sister city relationship and exchanged in-depth opinions on strengthening cooperation to expand cross-border corporate exchanges.
On the 25th, the delegation visited the former exhibition hall of Gaoxin High-Tech located in the Xinbei District Industrial Complex of Shangzhou City to observe the current status of advanced manufacturing development. They inspected companies such as Youon, the world’s number one hydrogen bicycle sales company; Galaxy, a semiconductor device and wafer manufacturer; and Macmic, a semiconductor design company, confirming the current state of Shangzhou’s industrial economy.
At the ‘2024 Shangzhou New Energy Industry Development Conference’ held on the 26th, Mayor Joo Gwang-deok emphasized, “The practical and empirical spirit of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong and the innovative spirit of President Xi Jinping align with our goal to leap from a carbon-centered industrial structure to a new energy economy.”
Mayor Joo then introduced Wangsu New City, scheduled for completion in 2028, and presented a master plan integrating eco-friendly hydrogen energy with advanced industrial complexes.
Meanwhile, Namyangju City has maintained a sister city relationship with Shangzhou City since 1999 and plans to invite a delegation to the Dasan Jeong Yak-yong Cultural Festival next month.
Shangzhou City, China, is rapidly emerging as a global advanced manufacturing hub by leveraging its geographical advantage at the center of the Yangtze River Delta and establishing a comprehensive logistics network including railroads, ports, and highways.
