Held at Dasandong Central and Seonhyeong Waterfront Parks from October 3 to 6
Namyangju City is starting the creation of 21 citizen participation gardens in line with the '2024 Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo,' which will be held from October 3 to 6 at Dasandong Central and Seonhyeong Waterfront Parks. Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 27th that it will officially begin creating 21 citizen-participation gardens in line with the '2024 Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo' to be held from October 3 to 6 at Dasan-dong Central and Linear Waterfront Parks.
This expo aims to create garden spaces where local residents can unite under the detailed strategy of 'Community Garden Walks' and to spread garden culture.
The citizen-participation gardens are composed of six categories: △ Citizen Gardener Gardens △ Apartment Gardens △ Little Gardener Gardens △ Citizen Gardens △ Garden Creation Team Gardens △ Commercial Area Gardens.
In the Citizen Gardener Gardens, citizens currently undergoing the city’s citizen gardener training course participated and created a garden titled ‘The Sound of Rain on a Corrugated Metal Roof.’
The Apartment Gardens were created as a space to strengthen community bonds by residents of Dasan Station Nature & Prugio, e-Pyeonhansesang Dasan, and Dasan Metro 3 Complex apartments near the expo site collaborating to transform apartment entrances into gardens.
Along the roads surrounding the expo, Little Gardeners will place hanging flowerpots to further enhance the expo atmosphere.
The Citizen Gardens consist of 14 works selected through a design contest held in August, involving citizens from various fields interested in gardening, who had a meaningful time directly constructing the gardens based on their designs.
Among the main pillars of the expo, the Garden Creation Team of the Citizen Promotion Group discovered a buffer zone within the expo site and created a grass garden, while the Commercial Area Gardens linked with nearby shops aim to revitalize the local economy.
A city official said, “Through the creation of these citizen-participation gardens, we hope residents will communicate with nature and that garden culture will spread. We want many citizens to participate, break down barriers, and enjoy the pleasure of cultivating gardens together.”
Meanwhile, Namyangju City held the final expo briefing on the 25th to review and accelerate preparations regarding the overall planning, installation, operation, and management of the event.
