Jeong In-hwa, the mayor of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, boarded a flight to Austria last September at the invitation of the mayor of Linz. During his visit to Linz, Mayor Jeong signed the "Republic of Korea Gwangyang City - Austria Linz Media Art Exchange Cooperation MOU," and the first event under this agreement is a media art exchange exhibition.
Gwangyang City announced that from October 2 to 10, it will jointly hold the media art exchange exhibition 8637 from Light with the Ars Electronica Center located in Linz, Austria.

The exchange exhibition features Susi Gutsche, an Ars Electronica Archive-Preis award-winning artist, along with prominent Korean artists Lee Inam, Kim Changkyum, Lee Jaehyung, Jeong Jeongju, Moon Junyong, and Lee Dona.
Additionally, works by artist Kim Ah-young, who received last year's top prize, the Golden Nica, at the world's largest media award, Prix Ars Electronica, will be showcased. A total of 14 works from the Ars Electronica Animation Festival 2023 On Tour will also be screened.
The artworks will be exhibited at various locations within the city until October 10. Gwangyang Art Warehouse (Moon Junyong, Lee Dona), Yedam Warehouse (Susi Gutsche, AE Animation Festival on Tour 2023), Inseori Park (Lee Inam, Lee Jaehyung, Kim Changkyum), Guru Coffee Roasters (Kim Changkyum), and the Seoul National University Southern Practice Forest Residence (Jeong Jeongju) are planned as exhibition venues for the artists' works.
The opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on October 2 at Gwangyang City Hall (Building 1), with representatives from the Ars Electronica Center and Susi Gutsche listed among the attendees.
At the opening ceremony, a media art performance themed around iron and fire, which are commonalities between Gwangyang City and Linz City, will be presented alongside various performances by the Gwangyang City Choir, Gwangyang City Gugak Orchestra, and musical actress Yoon Ji-in.
Meanwhile, Gwangyang City appointed actor and painter Ha Jung-woo as the promotional ambassador for the Gwangyang-Linz media art exchange. Ha Jung-woo will convey his congratulations through a promotional video for this exchange exhibition.
