The Haeoreum Alliance, a cooperative initiative between the three cities of Pohang, Ulsan, and Gyeongju, strengthened mutual cooperation by holding a working-level workshop at The-K Hotel Bomun in Gyeongju on the 27th.
The Haeoreum Alliance, consisting of the three cities Pohang, Ulsan, and Gyeongju, held a working-level workshop on the 27th at The-K Hotel in Bomun, Gyeongju.
This workshop was organized to promote exchanges among working-level officials of the three cities and to enhance the efficiency of joint cooperative projects, thereby contributing to regional development.
The event, attended by over 120 working-level staff, featured a keynote lecture on the sustainable development of the Haeoreum Alliance, presentations on outstanding cases of joint cooperative projects, and cultural lectures.
Jung Hyunwook, Director of the Urban Space Research Division at the Ulsan Institute, delivered an in-depth keynote lecture on strategies for advancing joint cooperative projects of the Haeoreum Alliance Council, drawing significant attention from participants.
An official from Pohang City stated, "We expect that this working-level workshop, where officials from Pohang, Ulsan, and Gyeongju gather, will further strengthen intercity cooperation and serve as a catalyst for accelerating joint projects."
The Haeoreum Alliance was established in June 2016 as a win-win council for the joint development of Pohang, Ulsan, and Gyeongju, which share similar industrial, historical, and cultural spheres of life, following the opening of the Ulsan-Pohang Expressway.
The alliance is currently promoting 36 projects across five major fields. Key projects include the establishment of an "eco-friendly high-tech industrial belt" as a unified economic zone, the creation of a "world-class cultural tourism area" connecting rivers, mountains, and the sea, and the formation of an "ultra-wide transportation network" linking the cities as a single living zone.
Notably, since July this year, the Haeoreum Alliance Metropolitan Promotion Team has been operating in Ulsan, consisting of two members from Ulsan City, and one each from Pohang and Gyeongju, forming a four-member team. Preparations are underway for the launch of the metropolitan secretariat and the full-scale implementation of various joint cooperative projects.
