With “wellness” rapidly emerging as a major keyword in tourism, local governments are focusing on revitalizing regional tourism based on wellness tourism. Among them, Yeongdeok County’s swift initiatives are drawing attention.

The “Yeongdeok International H Wellness Festa 2024,” currently being prepared by Yeongdeok County, will feature participation from major domestic and international medical organizations and institutions, including the Association of Korean Medicine, the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development, the Indian Association of Ayurveda Doctors, the University of Delhi, and Banaras Hindu University.

The event program consists of an opening ceremony, wellness experiences, and a wellness life expo. The opening ceremony will include an Indian traditional dance performance with audience participation, a collaborative musical performance featuring nature-inspired instruments, a wellness talk concert, and a walking event along Goraebul Beach.

The wellness experience exhibition will feature a total of 105 booths, offering wellness medical experiences through traditional medicine from Korea, India (Ayurveda), and Germany (Kneipp), as well as a food market where visitors can purchase wellness foods and beauty products. There will also be a variety of cultural events, including joint performances by Korean and Indian artists and an Indian folk art invitational exhibition.

Additionally, a relaxation zone will be set up as part of the wellness natural healing program, offering a range of activities such as forest naps, relaxation meditation, yoga, barefoot walking on the beach, zoning out, and camping, providing a comfortable resting place for visitors weary from daily life.

The Wellness Life Expo will be held throughout the festival, showcasing products from leading wellness companies from various countries to promote healthy lifestyles. It will also serve as a venue for experts to present on traditional medicine topics and engage in lively discussions on the development of the wellness tourism industry.

Notably, the Minister of AYUSH, who oversees India’s wellness-related policies, will attend the event to discuss exchanges in traditional medicine and the development of the wellness industry between Gyeongbuk Province and India. This is expected to serve as a significant turning point in expanding the global scale of wellness tourism industry exchanges between Korea and India.

In addition, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi will visit to explore ways to cooperate and expand in various fields, including the training of wellness professionals and attracting international students between the two countries.

Kim Kwangyeol, the county governor, stated, “Through this Korea-India exchange and cooperation, we have agreed to work together for the development of the global wellness industry,” adding, “We will use the Yeongdeok International H Wellness Festa 2024 as an opportunity to enhance Yeongdeok County’s competitiveness in wellness tourism.”
