Yu Young-il, Vice Chairman of the Urban Environment Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council (People Power Party, Anyang 5), is having a discussion on current issues with the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation on the 26th.
The Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) has been urged to focus on creating urban spaces that enable continuous residence within local communities in preparation for an aging society.
On the 26th, Yoo Young-il, Vice Chairman of the Urban Environment Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly (People Power Party, Anyang 5), held a roundtable meeting with GH to discuss the creation of community-based urban spaces and care implementation plans to realize continuous residence in local communities in response to the aging era.
Aging In Place (AIP) refers to growing older while maintaining familiar relationships in a chosen residence regardless of age or income, which becomes possible when housing stability is secured and integrated care services are linked.
At the roundtable, Vice Chairman Yoo stated, "To systematically and practically support AIP, it is necessary to integrate social welfare and care services, such as community-based health and medical service provision," and urged, "GH needs to reconsider its existing public housing supply projects from the perspective of AIP."
In response, GH officials agreed on the necessity of considering AIP when promoting public housing projects and proposed practical strategies such as discovering a Gyeonggi-type AIP model, securing finances, and establishing a sustainable foundation for realizing AIP.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Yoo plans to soon introduce a representative ordinance titled ‘Gyeonggi Province Community-Based Urban Space Creation and Support for Continuous Residence in Local Communities.’
