Operating from October at 5 Dong Community Centers... Safety Management and Order Maintenance
Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) will deploy and operate ‘Public Safety Officers’ within the community service centers starting next month.
Recently, the district has seen an increase in verbal and physical abuse of staff due to malicious complaints at community service centers, which has threatened the safety of visitors and made smooth complaint handling difficult. To address this situation, Public Safety Officers will be assigned and operated at the community service centers.
From October 2, one Public Safety Officer will be assigned to each of the Guro 2-dong, Guro 4-dong, Guro 5-dong, Garibong-dong, and Oryu 2-dong community centers. They will be stationed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays to manage safety and maintain order.
During working hours, Public Safety Officers will wear uniforms and perform duties such as protecting the community center buildings, maintaining order inside and outside the buildings, guiding visitors, and protecting visitors and staff in case of verbal or physical abuse.
The district expects that operating Public Safety Officers will enable a prompt response to malicious complaints occurring at community centers, thereby providing high-quality complaint services in a safe environment.
Additionally, to ensure the successful establishment of the Public Safety Officer operation, job training was conducted on the 25th.
The training focused on strengthening essential response capabilities to protect staff and visitors, including rapid response measures to malicious complaints such as verbal and physical abuse, methods for maintaining order and guiding visitors within the community centers, and immediate protective actions in emergency situations.
Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, stated, “We hope that the operation of Public Safety Officers will allow both staff and visitors to receive administrative services in a safe working environment.”
The district plans to minimize damage from malicious complaints by cooperating with related organizations such as the Guro Police Station.
