'Makgeolli from Across the Country Gather in Goyang City... 2024 Goyang City Makgeolli Festival Held'

October 5-6 at Ilsan Munhwa Square... Over 280 Types of Makgeolli from Across the Country Available to Taste

The ‘2024 Goyang-si National Makgeolli Festival’ will be held for two days on October 5th and 6th at Ilsan Culture Square. Starting this year, the festival will be successfully hosted and organized by the ‘Goyang-si Brewery Association’ with support from Goyang-si.

The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Goyang-si, the City of Gawaji Rice, Brewing Taste and Style,’ aiming to widely promote Gawaji rice, a specialized agricultural product of Goyang Special City, and local makgeolli.

A total of 76 companies nationwide (offering over 280 varieties) will participate in free tasting events, and various programs and performances such as makgeolli talk shows and makgeolli brewing experiences are also prepared.

The Goyang-si National Makgeolli Festival has attracted diverse makgeolli companies thanks to the efforts of the brewery Avengers within Goyang-si (Goyang-si Brewery Association - Baedari Doga, Haengjusanseong Juga, Goyang Takju Joint Manufacturing Plant, Stay Hands, Makkaeju). Events filled with affection for makgeolli, including dialogue sessions with brewers and talk sessions with writer Heo Si-myeong, will also be held.

In particular, no side dishes cooked on-site will be sold at the venue; only processed products made from Goyang-si agricultural products such as tofu and kimchi will be sold, encouraging visitors to disperse to nearby commercial areas and promoting coexistence with local merchants.

Park Sang-bin, chairman of the Goyang-si Brewery Association, stated, “The Goyang-si National Makgeolli Festival is a traditional and precious makgeolli festival that started in Goyang Special City, the first of its kind nationwide, and has continued for over 20 years. We plan to build its reputation as a makgeolli sanctuary comparable to Germany’s Oktoberfest.”

He added, “We hope festival visitors use public transportation and bring mats to enjoy the event safely and happily.”
