Shinhan Card announced on the 27th that it has launched two types of foreigner-exclusive check cards to enable foreigners residing in Korea to make payments conveniently and receive various benefits.
The 'SOL Global Check Card' for foreigners aged 30 and above offers a 10% cashback on spending at large marts such as E-Mart, Traders Wholesale Club, and Homeplus. It also provides a 10% cashback on amounts spent at restaurants, hospitals, and pharmacies. Cashback can be received once per day, up to three times per month, with a maximum of 1,000 KRW per transaction in each category.
The 'SOL Global U Check Card' is designed based on the consumption patterns of teenagers and people in their 20s, such as exchange students. It offers a 10% cashback on spending at coffee shops like Ediya, Coffee Bean, and Twosome Place, as well as convenience stores including CU, GS25, 7-Eleven, and E-Mart24. Users can also get 10% cashback on shopping areas such as delivery applications, Coupang, and Olive Young. Cashback is provided once per day, up to three times per month, with a maximum of 1,000 KRW per transaction in each category.
Both cards offer a 10% cashback up to 10,000 KRW on postpaid public transportation and mobile communication fees.
Cashback benefits for both cards apply when the previous month's spending reaches at least 300,000 KRW. Any customer holding a foreigner registration card can apply, and there is no separate annual fee.
Additionally, Shinhan Card plans to establish a new platform early next year in collaboration with fintech company Load System to provide various financial services targeting short-term foreign tourists. The platform will offer financial services such as card issuance and overseas remittance for foreign tourists, as well as additional services like mobile identity verification and tax refunds. Load System is a fintech company that provides non-face-to-face identity verification solutions and easy payment services based on mobile passports.
A Shinhan Card official stated, "We expect that the foreigner-exclusive check cards will improve the card consumption experience for foreigners residing in Korea while providing differentiated benefits. Shinhan Card will continue to support domestic consumption activation by ensuring that no financially marginalized groups, including foreigners, are left behind."
