Busan Gijang County Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Daebyeon-Jukseong Interchange Road Construction Project

Coastal Tourism Road with Scenic Views Developed to Foster New Regional Tourism Resources

On the 26th, Gijang County in Busan held a groundbreaking ceremony for the county’s key project, the “Daebyeon-Jukseong Intersection Road Construction,” at the parking lot of the Daebyeon Fishing Village Women Divers’ Specialty Products Sales Center.

About 200 people attended the ceremony, including Gijang County Mayor Jeong Jongbok, members of the Busan Metropolitan Council, members of the Gijang County Council, and local residents, all wishing for the safe and swift progress of the coastal road construction.

This road construction targets a 687-meter section around the Donghae Fisheries Management Office in Daebyeon-ri, which is the 8th phase of the “Daebyeon-Jukseong Intersection Road Construction Project.”

The “Daebyeon-Jukseong Intersection Road Construction Project” is a large-scale project to open a 13.5-meter-wide, 6.18-kilometer-long coastal road connecting Daebyeon in Gijang-eup to Jukseong.

Since the project began in 2014, about 1.35 kilometers of the road had been opened by 2021, but progress had been hampered by issues such as land compensation and securing project funds.

In response, since 2022, the county has been actively pursuing the project as a key pledge of the 8th popularly elected administration, allocating a budget of 27.6 billion KRW (11.3 billion from the city, 16.3 billion from the county).

The 7th phase, covering an 866-meter section around Woljeon Village in Jukseong-ri, began construction in June 2023 and is scheduled for completion in June 2025, while the newly commenced 8th phase is expected to be completed in September 2026.

Currently, the county is carrying out land compensation procedures for the 9th phase (1.3 kilometers around the seawater desalination area), and plans to fully proceed with the final 10th phase (1.7 kilometers around the Jukseong Intersection), aiming to open the entire 6.18-kilometer section as soon as possible.

The county expects that once the Daebyeon-Jukseong road project is completed, it will not only improve the local transportation system through the creation of sidewalks and road realignment, but also become a new tourist attraction in the region as a coastal tourism road with walking and bicycle paths.

In particular, by linking with the influx of tourists to the Osiria Tourism Complex, which attracts 20 million visitors annually, the county anticipates revitalizing tourism in adjacent areas and bringing vitality to the local economy as a whole.

Mayor Jeong Jongbok stated, “The coastal road between Daebyeon and Jukseong Intersection will become a new tourism resource with beautiful coastal scenery, and is also a key solution to alleviate traffic congestion in the Osiria Tourism Complex. We will work closely with local residents to ensure the project is managed safely and efficiently.”
