Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, visited Hyundai Hillstay Daycare Center, which operates the Hwasun-type 24-hour daycare, on the 26th to check on the difficulties faced by childcare staff and reaffirmed his commitment to expanding the program to all cities and counties.
During the onsite visit to the daycare center, Gu Bok-gyu, Mayor of Hwasun County, and others joined to encourage childcare teachers and related personnel.
Since July 2023, Hwasun County has been operating two Hwasun-type 24-hour daycare centers where infants and toddlers can be cared for on weekdays and Saturdays, including nighttime hours.
For all parents who cannot find childcare due to nighttime economic activities, business trips, or illness, 1 to 2 teachers and cooks are stationed on-site, allowing emergency care to be used at a rate of 1,000 KRW per hour for up to 80 hours per month.
Kim Young-seon, director of Hyundai Hillstay Daycare Center, said, “We operate the daycare center with great satisfaction as the parents who use it are very pleased,” adding, “It is an open daycare center for everyone, including about five children from multicultural families.”
Governor Kim Young-rok stated, “The 24-hour daycare center provides 24-hour childcare services for infants and toddlers in need of emergency care, serving as a model case to address childcare gaps and overcome low birth rates,” and added, “We will actively support its expansion to all cities and counties.”
