One lane to open from 6:30 p.m. on the 26th with temporary traffic lights installed
The ring road in Ulleung County, North Gyeongsang Province, which had been closed due to falling rocks caused by recent heavy rains, has been temporarily reopened.
According to Ulleung County on the 26th, the ring road in the Cheonbu-ri area of Buk-myeon (on Local Road No. 90) was temporarily reopened at 6:30 p.m. that day.
Previously, at around 8:34 p.m. on the 22nd, approximately 500 tons of rocks fell near the Samseon Tunnel in Buk-myeon, resulting in the restriction of both directions of traffic for about 2.5 kilometers from Seonchang Pier to the entrance of Jukam Village, causing inconvenience as drivers had to take long detours.
As soon as the rockfall occurred, Ulleung County immediately began removal work by deploying equipment such as excavators and dump trucks. Mountain rescue team members were also dispatched to remove remaining rocks on the slope.
Although the removal work has been completed, due to the risk of additional rockfall from remaining rocks on the upper slope, a temporary traffic light was installed to allow traffic in only one lane.
Thanks to the prompt response from Ulleung County, tourists and local residents visiting the county over the weekend will no longer have to take long detours.
