Hyosung Heavy Industries announced on the 26th that it has completed the installation and commissioning of the largest domestic capacity 336MW ESS (Energy Storage System) at the Korea Electric Power Corporation Bubuk Substation in Miryang, Gyeongnam. The 336MW ESS installed this time is capable of supplying electricity equivalent to what approximately 1 million four-person households would use in one month.

ESS is a power system stabilization system that charges energy during nighttime when electricity demand is low and discharges during daytime peak hours to increase power plant utilization. It is essential to complement the drawbacks of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power, whose generation varies depending on weather conditions.

Since entering the ESS business in 2009, Hyosung Heavy Industries has been recognized in both domestic and international ESS markets with its long-accumulated know-how in power infrastructure business and self-developed technology. In particular, it has developed PCS (Power Conversion System), a core component of ESS equipment that stores electricity in batteries or converts it into a form that can be supplied to the power grid, and PMS (Power Management System), an ESS operation program, with its own technology. It has recorded over 200 domestic sites and a cumulative capacity of 2.2GWh, holding a 22% domestic market share and ranking first.

Woo Tae-hee, CEO of Hyosung Heavy Industries, said, "Hyosung Heavy Industries, which has led the domestic ESS market, has once again demonstrated a higher level of technology through this large-capacity ESS project," adding, "We will strengthen our position as a global leader beyond Korea in the ESS market, where demand is rapidly increasing due to the expansion of renewable energy."

Meanwhile, Hyosung Heavy Industries is recognized for its technology in overseas markets as well, supplying ESS not only domestically but also to the UK, South Africa, and other countries. It has been listed as the best ESS company by BNEF (Bloomberg New Energy Finance), a renowned renewable energy market and trend research firm, for two consecutive quarters in the first and second quarters of this year.
