Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the "2nd Gwangjin-gu Senior Hangung Tournament" on the 26th at the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium.
Hosted by the Korea Senior Citizens Association Gwangjin-gu Branch (Chairman Hwang Gap-seok), this tournament was organized to promote friendship and harmony among seniors. It marked the second event following its inaugural tournament last year.
Hangung is a recreational sport that combines traditional games such as Tuho and Korean archery with Western archery and darts. It helps improve concentration, arm flexibility, and muscle strength, making it consistently popular among seniors.
The event was held with about 400 participants. It began with dementia prevention exercises by the Senior University and a medley of acoustic guitar performances by a band, followed by the opening ceremony, matches, and an awards ceremony.
The Hangung tournament featured 160 senior participants competing fiercely. Twenty teams competed in the team event, and 20 individuals participated in the individual event, showcasing their skills through preliminary and final rounds.
The Korea Hangung Association was entrusted with managing the matches to ensure fairness and professionalism.
In the individual Hangung competition, senior Lee Kang-guk took first place. In the team event, 4th team (Guui 1-2, Guui Hyundai 6th Senior Center) won first place, 1st team (Junggok 1-2, Junggok 3-dong Senior Center) took second place, and 6th team (Sanui Village Senior Center) received third place.
Hwang Gap-seok, Chairman of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Gwangjin-gu Branch, said, "We prepared the Hangung tournament to promote health and harmony among local seniors. I am glad that many seniors could come together and communicate."
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I thank Chairman Hwang Gap-seok and all related personnel who prepared this tournament. We will continue to actively support seniors so they can enjoy a healthy and vibrant life through recreational sports like Hangung."
