Namyangju-si Operates Traveling Musical for School Violence and Sexual Crime Prevention

Namyangju-si Operates Traveling Musical for School Violence and Sexual Crime Prevention Namyangju City is conducting traveling musical performances to prevent school violence and sex crimes at 10 elementary and middle schools within the city.

Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 26th that starting from October 24th at Gwangdong Middle School, it will hold traveling musical performances for the prevention of school violence and sex crimes at 10 selected elementary and middle schools in the area based on a demand survey until the end of October.

This program is conducted in collaboration with the creative theater company for children and youth, ‘Geukdan Ire’ (CEO Heo Jeong-won), and focuses on helping students recognize the dangers of school violence and sex crimes on their own and respond appropriately through cultural experiences, moving away from the traditional lecture-style education method.

The school violence prevention musical ‘Last Shuttle,’ aimed at upper elementary and middle school students, is designed to help students understand school violence from various perspectives. This work awakens students to the possibility that they can be not only victims but also perpetrators of school violence, and delivers the important message that being a bystander is equivalent to condoning violence.

The sex crime prevention musical ‘Sinbyeoljubujeon’ for lower elementary students is adapted from a traditional folktale, allowing young students to naturally recognize the dangers of sex crimes and learn how to protect themselves.

A city official stated, “We hope that through this musical, students will realize the seriousness of school violence and sex crimes on their own and that it will greatly help in forming a healthy and safe school culture,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that students can attend school in a safe environment through various programs.”
