Hanam City Youth Appear on Misa Cultural Street... Promoting Sseujukking Campaign

Hanam City Youth Appear on Misa Cultural Street... Promoting Sseujukking Campaign Hanam City held a "Sseujupking" campaign on the 25th at Misa Culture Street, where about 20 young people, including Cho Chang-min, the Honorary Youth Mayor of Hanam City, participated in a smoking cessation campaign and environmental cleanup volunteer activities.

Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 26th that on the 25th, to commemorate 'Youth Day,' more than 20 youths including Cho Chang-min, Hanam City's Youth Honorary Mayor, participated in the ‘Sseujupking’ campaign, which involved a smoking cessation campaign and environmental cleanup volunteer activities at Misa Culture Street.

‘Sseujupking’ is a portmanteau of ‘sseuregi jupgi’ (picking up trash) and ‘walking.’ It is a unique performance led by Hanam City youth to proactively solve local community issues through environmental cleanup activities and to promote various youth policies implemented by Hanam City to many citizens.

The Youth Mates (Youth Honorary Mayor and Youth Policy Advisory Group), representing Hanam City youth, held the first Sseujupking event in June at Misa Culture Street, followed by events in July at Gam-il and Wirye New Town, and in August in the original downtown area, before returning to Misa Riverside City to conduct the fourth campaign of the year.

In particular, this campaign was distinguished from the previous three events, which were conducted as independent activities by the Youth Mates, by actively recruiting youths to participate in the Sseujupking campaign in celebration of ‘Youth Day’ (the third Saturday of September every year) and passionately carrying out the event.

Youths participating in the campaign wore Super Mario character costumes, a signature of the Sseujupking activity, and toured areas including Misa Station Clock Tower, Misa Culture Street, and Misa Lake Park, picking up cigarette butts and other trash throughout the streets, drawing the attention of citizens.

Additionally, the youths engaged in team missions involving citizens during the campaign, adding a youthful wit to the activities and bringing smiles to participants.

One youth who participated in the Sseujupking campaign said, “Since moving to Hanam City, I had few opportunities to socialize with peers, so I was disappointed. However, by participating in the Sseujupking event hosted by Hanam City, I was able to spend an enjoyable and rewarding time,” and added, “I will take more interest in and actively participate in the youth policies promoted by Hanam City following today’s event.”

Mayor Lee Hyun-jae stated, “I am deeply grateful that our youths have actively participated in community activities, creating opportunities to enjoy, communicate, and socialize with their peers,” and emphasized, “Hanam City will continue to do its best to become a ‘youth-friendly city’ that actively reflects the voices of youth in its policies.”
