Kim Dong-il Appointed as New Civilian Chairman of Gangwon-do 'Tannokwi'

Current Director of the Korea Climate Change Research Institute... 2-Year Term Starts Today

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on the 26th that Kim Dong-il, Director of the Korea Climate Change Research Institute, has been newly appointed as the civilian chairman of the Gangwon Province Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee (hereinafter referred to as ‘Carbon Neutral Committee’). Kim’s term will be two years starting from September 26.


The Gangwon Province Carbon Neutral Committee was launched on January 15 this year and is composed of 6 ex officio members including the co-chairman, the Governor of Gangwon Province, and 24 appointed members.

At the first meeting, the committee members were awarded their appointment certificates following the committee’s launch, and the ‘Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Carbon Neutral and Green Growth Basic Plan’ was reviewed and approved. Discussions on the direction of regional development through carbon neutrality also followed.


Going forward, the Gangwon Province Carbon Neutral Committee plans to secure the effectiveness and sustainability of carbon neutrality policies by sharing diverse opinions and improving and supplementing issues through the review and approval of the basic plan for carbon neutrality and green growth and the inspection results of climate crisis adaptation measures, thereby establishing a sustainable feedback system.


Newly appointed civilian chairman Kim Dong-il stated, “Since all sectors are related to carbon neutrality, I will do my best to draw out the interest and capabilities of all departments in Gangwon Province to strengthen the implementation of carbon neutrality policies,” and expressed his aspiration, “Through this, Gangwon Province will play a pivotal role in carbon neutrality and reflect this in the lives of Gangwon residents.”
