Two Vehicles Damaged... No Casualties
"Accident Occurred as Panel-Inserted Storage Box Was Damaged"
Construction Company Halts Exterior Work and Negotiates Compensation with Vehicle Owners
Dozens of metal sheets that looked like black sheets of paper fell onto the road during the morning commute, damaging two vehicles.
YTN reported, "Around 7:30 a.m. on the 25th, dozens of aluminum panels fell onto the road from an officetel construction site in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province." The road is an 8-lane two-way street, which was crowded with cars heading to work at the time. Two vehicles were damaged in the accident, but no casualties were reported. The owner of one of the damaged vehicles stated, "I heard a thud from above, so I stopped and checked, and found something like a metal sheet had fallen onto my car."
Pyeongtaek City believes the accident occurred when the bottom part of a storage container holding aluminum panels, which were to be used for the exterior finishing work of the officetel, was damaged while being moved by a tower crane. The construction company halted the exterior work after the accident and began investigating the cause while negotiating compensation with the affected vehicle owners.
Earlier, in February, a similar accident occurred at the same officetel construction site when construction materials fell, resulting in the death of one worker. As a result, three people, including the construction company's safety management officer, were sent to the prosecution on charges of professional negligence causing death and injury.
