Enjoy Content Like Chatting with an AI Personal Assistant
On the 26th, SK Broadband unveiled the 'B tv A.dot Service,' an AI personal assistant 'A.dot' applied to IPTV. Using natural voice conversation, the AI summarizes the plots of dramas and movies and recommends content tailored to my preferences.
SK Telecom's artificial intelligence (AI) personal assistant 'Aidot,' which is used on smartphones, will also be applied to broadcasting. Users who install the new set-top box can enjoy AI services through conversational interactions with Aidot on SK Broadband's IPTV service, 'B tv.'
On the 26th, SK Broadband held a press conference at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, unveiling the B tv Aidot service and the set-top box 'AI 4 Vision,' equipped with on-device AI capabilities. Kim Seong-su, head of SK Broadband's Customer Business Division, explained, "The combination of Aidot and B tv will greatly enhance the convenience and satisfaction experienced by customers."
Customers can press the microphone button on the remote control and say "Aidot" or select the Aidot icon in the top menu of B tv to start a conversation. For example, if a user asks, "I heard that actor Jung Hae-in is starring in a drama these days, what is it?" the Aidot service responds, "The drama title is 'Mom's Friend's Son'." Additionally, if asked, "How are people reacting?" or "What is the storyline?" it provides appropriate answers.
The B tv Aidot service offers various information about content, including basic details such as director, cast, and plot, as well as summaries of viewer reviews, delivering this information via voice. SK Broadband expressed its ambition to open an era of natural conversations with TV through AI.
In an open beta test conducted in August with 1,200 participants, 85% expressed satisfaction with the service, and 88% indicated their intention to continue using it. The B tv Aidot service is available on the AI 4 Vision and Smart3 set-top boxes, with plans to expand the service coverage.
Kim said, "The B tv Aidot service clearly understands the intent and context of what customers say and provides the optimal results to customers through voice," adding, "It will offer customers the sense of AI utility as if a media expert is guiding them."
The AI 4 Vision is equipped with a neural processing unit (NPU) chip, enabling on-device AI functions without connecting to the cloud. Additionally, the AI analyzes the audio and video brightness and color of content to optimize sound and picture quality. The AI 4 Vision also includes a camera to provide motion games recognizing customer movements, pet monitoring, exercise, video calls, and more.
Kim stated, "The combination of AI and media helps us better understand customers and allows them to immediately experience what they want," and added, "We will satisfy customer needs through B tv with Aidot applied, AI set-top boxes, and various AI services, and continue to introduce diverse AI technologies and services on B tv."
