Swing State Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Speech
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris reaffirmed her commitment to focusing on supporting the middle class during her term if she enters the White House.
On the 25th (local time), Vice President Harris delivered an economic policy speech at the Pittsburgh Economic Club in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, stating, "We have gathered at a critical moment," and "I believe this election presents a special opportunity to make the middle class the engine of American prosperity."
She said, "Building a strong middle class will be the defining goal of my presidency," and described this election as a moment to choose between the economic policies of Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump and policies that are "fundamentally different" from his. She directly criticized, "Trump only cares about making life better for the wealthiest people in America like himself."
In particular, Vice President Harris emphasized that unlike former President Trump, the wealthy son of a New York real estate developer, she is a "middle-class" individual who grew up under a single mother.
She also stressed her dedication to working with the private sector and entrepreneurs to help grow the middle class. Especially, she insisted that she is a "capitalist" who believes in a free and fair market, and that her policies are practical and not rooted in ideology.
With the U.S. presidential election just over 40 days away, both candidates are emphasizing economic policies to appeal to voters. According to a Reuters-Ipsos poll, as the U.S. election approaches, voters are placing the economy as their top priority among major issues. The day before, former President Trump announced a manufacturing revival pledge. Vice President Harris pledged housing purchase subsidies, small business tax cuts, and a ban on price gouging for groceries. She is also expected to propose new incentives for restoring U.S. manufacturing.
